Kerala - Some interesting facts

Kerala is referred as the “Spice Garden of India”, it is a beautiful state with an excellent landscape of palm-lined beaches, green jungles, plantation-covered hills, and enthralling rivers and lakes.

Tropical paradise of India: Kerala is indeed a green paradise; it is blessed with unique geographical features that make it one of a kind. The tranquil backwaters, paddy fields, sky kissed beaches, waterfalls, rivers, verdant mountains, exotic wildlife etc.

Land of Coconuts : The name Kerala is derived from the root word “Keram” which means Coconut tree in Malayalam, the regional language. Kerala is abundant with coconut trees, so naturally it came to be called ‘Keralam’ which translates into “land of coconuts”!!

Ayurveda : Ayurveda is a natural treatment system followed in India, from around 3000 B.C. Kerala is now the only state in India where Ayurveda is still followed as mainstream medicine. Kerala, being a tropical paradise is also richly blessed with innumerous medical plants and the right climate most suited for healing and natural treatments.

Backwaters : Backwaters is tone of the most interesting geographical features of Kerala. It is actually a chain of Brackish lagoons and lakes lying almost parallel to the western coats of the state. This interconnected network of canals, lakes and inlets is estimated to be about 900 Kilometers of maze-like waterways!!

Most Literate State in India : Kerala is the first state in India to reach 100% literacy rate. It still maintains the highest literacy rate among all the states of India.

Highest Female to male Ration in India : According to 2011 Census, Female to male sex ration in Kerala is higher the national average. The Overall sex ratio of Kerala is 1084 females per 1000 males.

Elephants : elephants have been an integral part of Kerala’s culture since ancient times. Elephants are titles as the state animal and have a place of honor in the emblem of Kerala Government. Richly adorned elephants are used for temple festivals and are associated with the Divine.

Highest Life Expectancy Rate in India : According to the 2011 Census data, Kerala has the highest Life expectancy among all the states in India. National average rate is found to be 65.6% while for Kerala, it is 75.1%
